Enclosed by Wood, as a Warm Cocoon
Designed by arch. Cristina PittonArabba, Italy
This house tells a story of love. The owners’ great passion for mountains is shown by the sight of the amazing surrounding peaks—a house made of wood and authenticity. Located in the Cordevole Valley, which cuts through the Belluno Dolomites from the Pordoi Pass, this narrow valley has never forgotten its past. A couple from Rome has fallen in love with the charm of a century-old tabià located a few kilometres away from Arabba and decided to convert it into their second home. Witness to old rural life, this characteristic alpine barn, made entirely of wood, overlooks some magnificent rock giants, the Sella Group on one side, Monte Civetta on the other and the Padon in front.
We cherished the desire of having a house we could call home – explained the owner – where the materials harmonised with the landscape. It was natural to see the potential to become our favourite refuge in that ingenious wooden architecture. It needed a significant renovation project entrusted to the architect Cristina Pitton, who understands our way of living.
Larch on every surface creates a seamless connection with the surrounding forest in three dimensions. This local essence, chosen among the Fiemme Tremila range, extends its beneficial feeling of well-being. Sanmartino essence from the collection Echi di Fiemme covers the walls and floors of the living room, sleeping area and stairs and creates a unique image of the well-being of nature that surrounds this enchanting location.
