Walser Rhythm
Alagna Valsesia, Italy
The hotel complex, designed by the studio Pandolfo Guarino Boggio Architetti Associati, includes three buildings with three or four floors, connected by porches and balconies, overlooking the peaks around Alagna Valsesia. Each chalet is cladded by wood and stones, with large hanging arcades and the roof is covered in ‘beole’, characteristic grey slate slabs. As if to mark a leap in time and open a gap in construction techniques, those “ancient” wooden architectural elements result from forerunner technology, consisting of an on-site assembly of X-Lam panels produced by Rasom. With this system, the load-bearing backbone – sturdier and earthquake-proof – was adorned with covered balconies, one for each room, and decorative stone bands.
The warm atmosphere of a mountain chalet is also respected in the interior design, with wood playing the starring role. In the suites, equipped with every comfort, all the custom-designed furnishings in larch wood reflect the spirit of the Alpine tradition. They are never dull, thanks to touches of amber knots and veins in relief.
This same Essence, aged, characterises Valon from the collection Echi di Fiemme. It showcases the skilled craftsmanship of a finish that has been perfected through tradition and research. This Larch wood, authentic and with natural cracks, antiqued or aged and subjected to the Thermowood thermal process or other processes, was used for the 2,700 square metres cladding for the stairs and floors. It was installed using a floating laying technique, without the use of adhesives or chemicals, ensuring a healthier environment. It is a choice in full harmony with a magical throwback to the past.
