Tuscan Harmonies
Designed by arch. Daniela BianchiSan Casciano - Chianti, Italy
Overlooking the hills of one of the most suggestive areas in the world – Chianti – in a territory for which everyone envies us, in San Casciano, a small village a few kilometers far from Florence, but that seems light years away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The silence of the countryside surrounds this cottage converted from an old abandoned barn, softly leant on the natural slope of the olive grove where it is located. Of the old barn only the bearing structure are still there: in two years of work, the abandoned warehouse has been transformed in a magnificent dwelling. A complex and well-structured renovating project, made of important structural interventions with the goal of fulfilling the owner’s desire: living with his family in a healthy house, from the roof to its foundation, respecting nature and wellbeing.
Wood, stone and glass, all natural materials that enhance the relation between internal and external part.
For the floors, stairs and some wall coverings was used Thermowood Dolcerivo essence. From the patio, there is the access to a wide area including the living room and the kitchen. Upstairs there is an entire paneled wall, while from an opening you can see a relax area, dominated by a brick wall. The oak wood, in its warm brown color seems preserving the marks of the wind and the subtle stripes of the soil. The differences in tone between the floor boards create a unique play of colors.
