Inspirations

Only the wood surface speaks in this “silent” home, with a play of lights and textures. This is the design idea of Marco Sbalchiero, an interior designer who created a building to house his home and studio.

In the area it stood a building now in ruins. A new building overlooking the Berici and Euganean Hills was designed to accommodate the steep slope of the Vicenza hills. Two structures on successive instalments are interconnected but also designed to function independently from one another. Each floor has its garden. The interior designer’s studio is located on the lower floor, with a large glass wall. It also includes a small theatre room. The upper level consists of two bedrooms, bathrooms with a spa room, and a living area that opens onto an outdoor patio. Besides the basement, whose function is to retain the slope, the rest of the building is entirely made of wood, assembled using a patented German system. The aluminium roof houses the photovoltaic system. A geothermal energy-based system provides air conditioning without using complex fixtures. The piping system is 50 meters long and only goes two meters deep into the ground to take advantage of the constant temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.

Ideas of living

The interior design features a minimalist style, without indulging in decorations, with large glass walls, bare walls, and neutral colours.
In this desired “silence”, – explained Sbalchiero – I wanted the main element to be the floor. I wanted it to have its own “voice”, literally the base on which everything stands.

That’s why Platino by Fiemme Tremila was chosen. With its whitish hues, it echoed and reinterpreted the overall glowing radiance. To create a “rustic” yet modern “sound” for the room – he added – I chose a marbled floor with a brushed finish that highlighted the manual labour with its roughness.
