Perfect geometries. Clean shapes. Perfect balance of volumes. Quadrangular atrium with distinctive impluvium. These are the unique elements of classical architecture of the historic Roman domus, which may also be unexpectedly found in contemporary constructions. Francesca and Stefano’s villa is one of these examples. Almost a Paradise, the Original Paradise, just outside ancient Imola walls, in a green yet urbanised area. Hence, Susanna Troncon’s design intuition, associate architect in the studio Ambientare Associati with Roberta Forlani. «Nowadays, classicism is not commonly referred to. However, the needs of the owners and context pointed towards the conceptual solutions used by the ancients. Yet, it didn’t mean just copying their style», she explained. No forgeries, but the strict implementation of fundamental canons adapted to modern living requirements.
The initial plan did not include wood floors until we found this extraordinary product. Platino proved to be the perfect choice for implementing the project’s ideas, following the various desired highlights, mainly because we used both the unknotted and knotty versions.
Platino is one of the two focus points of the symmetry play that is so important in this house. The spiral staircase dominates the atrium, and thanks to the glass surfaces, it is clearly visible from the outside in a perfectly central position.
