Creativity lives here
Designed by Paolo FerrettiBolzano, Italy
An historic residential area of Bolzano that was about to be abandoned has turned into a developing creative district, where designers, architects and other unusual commercial activities moved to. Paolo Ferretti also decided to take part into this challenge. He is the owner of Hmc, one of the most structured communication agencies in the area between Bavaria (Germany) and Emilia (Italy). "I was looking for a uniform space - he explains -, that could host up to 25 employees, plus partners, clients and the laboratories. The most obvious choice, in terms of logistic and saving, would have been to move to the productive outskirts. But I strongly wanted to find a place in the heart of Bolzano instead, because I believe that a communication agency needs to experience first-hand the city and relationships and not isolate in an industrial building or on top of a skyscraper". So he went for two ex-shops next to each other, with their showcases and their basement-storages and once they got united into a unique space of 350 sqm, they perfectly gave life to the space Ferretti was wishing for.
This space was still missing a strong personality though, which was reached afterwards with the use of two strong elements. On one side the non-walled electrical system visible in some alluminium wireways, which is a frequent solution abroad, even in private houses, but not really in Italy, although it provides clear benefits in terms of functionality and versatility.
The other characterizing element is the Fiemme Tremila wood floor, which has been laid everywhere in the Bronzo essence from the Boschi di Fiemme collection. Like the magic amber, this colour can capture the warmth of the sunlight and transform it into caramel-bronze glows. In the knot version with a brushed surface it unites comfort and strength. It is a clear tribute to the genius loci, with a recall to the traditional alpine houses, which highlights the cultural sense of belonging.
It's therefore the wood floor that gives value to the overall idea, thanks to the big (5m) planks, that emphasise the renovation and give value to the environment and also ennobling the wallcovering, that is still made out of wood, but recycled.
