Light and Silver Flowers
Designed by arch. Cinzia GuerraFano, Italy
In this part of Italy that the Byzantines have long dominated, the farmhouses have always had a big porch before the façade, as seen in the thousand-year-old churches of the Ravenna area. This house also has the traditional porch, with its wood-fired oven and barbecue, which are part of the home but still placed outdoors. The indoors, however, hardly exists. Or rather, the environment is so seamlessly integrated that the most natural well-being can be enjoyed in every room.
Everywhere – stairs, bathrooms and toilets included - there is a bright stretch of oak: Fior d’Argento, from the Fior di Fiemme collection. Planed, this wood creates a perfect combination of ancestral drives and modernity, summarising and exalting this moderate yet precious project’s core ideas. The final goal wasn’t a basic and didactic description of the ‘good old days’, embalmed in apparent stereotypes, but to give life to the most authentic feelings for the territory and its people.
This is why antique frames, fixtures, and rural furniture were restored and reused, placed in a strongly contemporary context where light is the main character. The ebony glow of aged oak, with its uneven planed woodwork that passes on the knowledge of traditional crafts, is like soothing light diffused throughout the house, including the marine plywood staircase also clad with Fior d’Argento.
