In the heart of Verona’s old town, inside a 15th-century building overlooking Santa Felicita, a private house has been turned into a space for connection and care.
The buildings that most spark the imagination of experts in residential redevelopment are often those that, over the decades, have become entangled in the urban fabric. These are the places where stories emerge, that seem to transcend conventional definitions and the spatial and temporal dimensions in which daily life unfolds. This building is one of those places.
The owners expressed a clear desire: to live in a place that could embrace the rhythm of daily life, the energy of colour, and the need for silence and light. The architect has welcomed this request, building a concrete and poetic response that turned every constraint into a generative opportunity. The project, designed by architect Mario Bellavite, was based on an integrated and harmonious combination of plants and materials. He was assisted by interior designer Giulia Bordin and Christian Negro Frèr, a consultant specialising in selecting insulating materials and plant engineering. He developed the high-efficiency plant engineering system, with a focus on health and comfort. The walls have been finished with natural lime from Brenta river, the envelope was insulated with woven hemp fiber, while on the floor was laid an elegant knot-free Italian walnut: the essence Fior di Nebbia from the collection Fior di Fiemme, with a chevron pattern.
The wood floor, lime, and hemp breathe, protect, restore well-being, regulate humidity, and foster a natural microclimate. Every choice was made to create a healthy, quiet, and durable environment, where the energy consumed matches the well-being returned.
