In Fiemme valley, at an elevation of 2,000 metres on the sunny mountain Cermis, a ‘60s chalet has regained its former glory, thanks to a fusion of design and nature.

Once upon a time, there were the ‘60s and the cableway company of Alpe Cermis, which started the works for the first two ski lifts alongside an ambitious building project. The aim was to create a typical holiday residential village to enhance the value of a place that is magical in itself. The detailed study of the building types to be used for constructions, aimed at safeguarding the natural heritage and providing the area with a unique and distinctive appearance, resulted in the creation of a first prototype called “Chalet Cermis”, firstly displayed in the town of Cavalese. Chalet Cermis was highly praised, leading to the construction of 13 additional houses to be situated at the arrival point of the ski lift, 2,000 metres above sea level. To respect the surrounding environment, the chalets were well spaced apart. The goal was for them to integrate and blend into the woods, which were to remain the mountain’s only true protagonist.

Die Idee des Raumkonzept

A total of 30 chalets can now be counted, with one of them having been renovated in the last two years. The owners desired a holiday home high in the mountains; therefore, it needed to offer every comfort while also serving as a place to rest and fully enjoy the blessings of nature. The idea for the interior design was to follow the cyclical reuse of wood: the increase in volumes required the cutting down of some trees, which were conceptually reused for the building and furniture of the new chalet.

The location and the project concept dictated to choose wood; all the more reason to select a natural product sourced from Fiemme valley. Specifically, an oak with natural tone was employed: the essence Rotondo from the Boschi di Fiemme collection, showcasing a Sawn finishing. The material continuity between floors and vertical surfaces evokes the feeling of being in a nest in the woods, yet it does not feel oppressive, thanks to the richly varied woodland that generates a sense of ancestral wellbeing.
